The Education Campus of the National Automobile Museum
160 classic cars, a lecture hall in the middle – and an educational concept that completely rethinks how mobility is taught. The Education Campus of the National Automobile Museum – The Loh Collection is more than a museum with a school program. It is a place where technology, design, and history are not explained, but experienced.
Learning among chrome and bodywork
Instead of PowerPoint, there are original vehicles. Instead of pure theory, it’s all about: looking, touching, understanding. School classes solder vehicle models from copper wire, build soapbox cars, or become “car influencers” for a day. Over 140 years of automotive history become tangible – and along the way, spark interest in STEM careers. That’s exactly the point: someone who assembles a slot car here might be thinking about an engineering degree in ten
years.
A campus that is unique worldwide
At the university level, it gets even more exciting. In cooperation with HfWU Nürtingen-Geislingen, lectures take place directly among the exhibits – vehicle technology, design, economic history, explained live using original examples. According to the museum, this close integration of museum, university, and professorship exists nowhere else in the world.
- Two certificate courses show how serious this is:
-
- CEHC – Certified Expert for Historic Cars: Seven modules, one goal: train experts who can professionally evaluate, authenticate, and appraise classic cars. Around 150 graduates since the start – and now even a dedicated master's degree program in automotive history
- CECD – Certified Expert for Car Design: No design degree required, but maximum practical relevance. From sketching to AI-supported design development including 3D printing and tokenization of vehicle designs – here traditional craftsmanship meets the future of mobility.
Future meets tradition
Since July 2026, there has even been a dedicated endowed professorship for automotive history – a clear signal that growth continues here. In addition, there are specialized seminars like “Bugatti – Past, Present, Future” or “AUTOMOBILSPORT – Day of Legends” that bring together international expertise and genuine passion
.
Why this is exciting
The Education Campus proves: knowledge transfer and fascination are not mutually exclusive. Those who learn among race cars and concept vehicles understand not only how mobility has worked – but also where it is heading. A learning environment that honors the past while shaping the future. That’s exactly what makes it one of the most exciting educational projects in the automotive world.
