Wow 8 – loud and quiet combined

Can an AMG be electric? The discussion has been running at full throttle since the presentation. For some, AMG without a V8 is like currywurst without sauce. For others, it’s the next logical step. But honestly: You simply have to.

Mercedes AMG GT Electric

The automobile is currently searching for its future. The last few years have been primarily one thing: “in between.” Not quite arrived at electric yet, but emotionally not yet away from the combustion engine either. Manufacturers, fans, engineers – everyone is stuck somewhere between the gas station and the charging station.

And that’s exactly where this AMG comes in. Widely, deeply, and loudly discussed.

Mercedes-AMG had flirted with electric before. The first attempt still seemed somewhat forced: the SLS AMG E-Cell. Technically exciting, but emotionally more of an experiment with a cable connection. After that, things got much bolder. The Vision One-Eleven felt like an electric restomod of the legendary C111 – completely crazy, futuristic, and precisely because of that, so impressive. Painted orange like the original.

And now? Now comes the first “real” production AMG with a battery at its heart.

I believe anyone who has pressed the "noise button" for the artificial sound a few times will quickly realize: doesn't have to.

The new AMG GT doesn’t want to explain to anyone why electric makes sense. It simply wants to be faster than the discussion about it. Over 1,000 kW of power, more than 360 km/h top speed, and charging at a speed that even makes the coffee at the rest stop nervous.

The performance? Completely absurd. Not that classic “first noise, then propulsion.” This thing just pushes. Immediately and brutally. As if someone briefly put reality on fast forward. Then comes that typical AMG moment: slight grin, sweaty palms, and the thought that your own driver’s license is also digital, 1 there, 0 gone.

And by the way, it can also be loud. But it doesn’t have to be. I believe anyone who has pressed the “noise button” for the artificial sound a few times will quickly realize: doesn’t have to. We probably need to get used to the fact that locomotion doesn’t have to have a direct correlation to noise. Yes, a V8 awakens emotions. But 1,300 electric horses that devour the horizon without delay do that too – just differently.

Visually, the AMG GT remains an AMG. That typical “I’d like to pass” face is immediately there. The long hood with the power domes deliberately recalls past times when the hood still had to stretch over the V8. Add to that this aggressive stance, the broad shoulders, and the attitude of a car that picks a fight even when standing still. That’s exactly what makes it exciting.

Because with all the future technology, one thing has become clear: it has become a real AMG. Impressive. Silently loud. And above all, unmistakable.
